Chapter 17 Summary

“He’d thought Teresa wouldn’t be more of a mystery to him. Now this” (87). They question Jorge, who complains of a headache and refuses to answer much. Thomas is upset that the others left them behind. He asks Jorge if he is really a pilot, which he says he is. Before they can do anything more, the alarm goes off again and a dozen guards pour in through the hangar doors.

Chapter 18 Summary

Thomas is pulled to the ground to avoid being hit by gunfire. They hide behind some crates, and Jorge says they need to start shooting back before they are flanked. Minho plans the attack and tells Jorge to scout a way to the Berg, the ship, so they can get away.

Once Jorge spots the Berg, Minho and Newt cover Jorge, Thomas, and Brenda as they make a run for the ship. Before they can make it, a Launcher grenade hits Brenda. Thomas feels helpless watching her and can do nothing to stop the electricity pulsing through her body. Minho and Newt abandon their posts when they see Brenda is hit and run toward the Berg.
